This chilly weather has me dreaming about summer, which has given me the perfect excuse to plan our summer activities, including by finding age-appropriate camp options for my girls.
Below are some day camp options in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Outdoor Camp Options
Triple C is a full-day camp option south of Charlottesville that seeks to provide children a safe, fun, experience in a traditional camp environment. Activities include swimming and horseback riding. A virtual tour of campgrounds is here.

Little Explorers Discovery School - children ages 2 and up will engage in a summer camp experience where imagination is encouraged through open-ended loose materials exploration, art creations, STEM activities, creative movement, music, stories, and lots of outdoor discovery play.
Where: Crozet, VA
When: June 27th-August 5th, 2022.
Cost: $275/potty-trained, $315 non-potty trained
Times: 8:15 am-3:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

Wildrock Crozet is an outdoor nature playscape that features trails, streams, and a gnome village. Campers will explore and play in all the nooks, creeks, and unique places found at Wildrock. Camp4Real is an outdoor camp based on the campuses of the Blue Ridge School, north of town, and the Miller School, west of town, that emphasizes healthy living through physical activities. Lunch and snacks included.

Camp Options for Tiny Movers and Dancers
Ballet School of Charlottesville on Ivy Road next to Bellair market offers half-day camp options. Each week features a production of a favorite ballet show which includes Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, and The Nutcracker.

Times: 9 am to Noon, Half-Day Option. Extended day option 9 am to 3 pm, Only ages 9+.

Charlottesville Ballet on 29N holds a variety of camp options starting at ages three and up. Summer camp information can be found here.
Albemarle Ballet Theatre has a variety of ballet/dance camp options. Camp starts at age 3. Enrollment is underway for daily in-person classes and week-long camps for all ages and abilities. Classes include ballet, jazz, modern, contemporary, pilates, theatre, composition and more.
Limited space available due to social distancing and safety practices.

Camps for Little Creatives
The Hive is hosting indoor, half-day art-themed camps starting the week of June 20 through August 19th. Camp themes vary by week and include imagination, photography, and even a doll camp where little ones help their dolls become little entrepreneurs by creating a lemonade or coffee stand. Who: Age ranges vary per week and start at age four and up. *Not every age range will be offered weekly.
The Glass Palette will offer a glass exploration camp geared for children ages 7-12. Projects may include fused glass, mosaic, sand-blasting, and stained glass. Students will need to bring their lunch.
When: July 25-29, 2022 10:30 am-2 pm. Ages 7-12.
Cost: $285, which includes materials. Ages 7-12.
Kids College at PVCC will offer over 200 hands-on, fun, and enriching STEM & art academies online and in-person for rising 3rd graders - 9th graders. This year, in addition to the PVCC campus, academies will be offered at Fluvanna County High School, William Monroe Middle School, and Online.

Little Planets has designed Art & Nature Camp for children ages 3 to 5 to experience the delight and power of art and nature. With full weeks and individual drop-in days available, this camp will nurture children’s wonder, curiosity and self-expressio. Weekly themes include hands-on outdoor exploration and creative art projects. Campers will also experience IX parks immersive art space, the Looking Glass.

Creative Builder Day Camps at IX Art Park is a series of one-week intensive daytime art camps focused on compelling creature-based themes. Under the guidance of dedicated teaching artists, campers will explore exciting subjects through various artistic mediums such as sculpture, illustration, painting, puppetry, stop motion animation, and more. All camps will feature hands-on artmaking opportunities, tutorials, and the chance to work with professional materials and tools. Campers should pack their own lunches and snacks.
When: Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm with curriculum beginning promptly at 9 am.

Stop Mo Stories Camp at IX Art Park. Lights, camera, action! Well, actually it’s more like story, script, concept art, storyboards, puppets, sets, lights, camera, action! This epic camp provides lessons in patience and focus, as well as puppet building and set design. Further, it provides a creatively charged tutorial in that most elusive and important of skills: collaboration. 12 teaching artist-guided collaborators will create a 5 to 10-minute stop-motion animated film. Campers should pack their own lunches and snacks.
When: Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm with curriculum beginning promptly at 9 am. Select camps available for 2 week periods.

Virginia Discovery Muesum- Engineer it! Have you ever thought about how to make the best pillow fort? Find the fastest way to sled down a snowy hill? Build the tallest Lego tower? Camps for Language Lovers
Nature and Ninos - previously held at Mint Springs Park in Crozet. Nature and Ninos is an outdoor, nature-based camp that focuses on exposure to the Spanish language via outdoor play and exploration. More details are coming in spring.
International School of Charlottesville - downtown Charlottesville previously held language immersion camps but paused during the Covid-19 pandemic. Check here for any additional updated information. Update 2/27/22- ISC will postpone camp for Summer 2022.
Girl Power Camps
Sugar Hollow Day Camp - Registration Opens March 2022 - Girl Scouts in rising first grade through rising seventh grade are eligible to attend. Girls are grouped in units according to their rising grade level. Each camper will earn a patch from the GSVSC summer camp progression program and a badge specific to each year’s camp theme.

Camp Options for Littles under 3
Mountaintop Montessori - Sprout Weeks - Summer and camping themed activities will bring joy and awaken the creative spirit. Children will spend part of each day singing traditional camp songs, learning to square dance, and playing music. The other half will be spent doing traditional crafts such as making clay pots and beads, creating jewelry, and building a tee-pee.

Albemarle Ballet Theatre Exploring Ballet | Ages 3-4 | $180
A young dancer’s very first peek at classical ballet! This camp teaches ballet technique, flexibility, coordination, balance, creative movement and games, and stories of the classical ballets. The dancers decorate their own costumes (that they keep after the camp) and share a demonstration on the last day. Craft supplies and snacks are included.
